She’s feeling guilty about the fact that she is enjoying her son not being around. Everyone wants some peace and quiet now and then, but enjoying it almost feels like an admission that you prefer their absence to their company. She probably feels it’s bad for a mother to feel that way about their child, but she’s just being too hard on herself.
I mean, everyone needs a break now and then. That doesn’t mean you love that person any less. :)
It’s a case of misplaced guilt. No one wants to be with another person 24/7. It’s good to have separations so you are with other people for a while and then later on when you’re with the special person you have something to talk about. She can look forward to hearing about Michael’s first day of school.
I know I should feel guilty, but from a survey of moms of 2+ at my son’s preschool, happiness was definitely the most common feeling, and the elementary school parents said that when it’s all day, it’s even better!
That is a good way of looking at it, that you are enjoying your time apart so you can enjoy your time together more.
And wow, when you have 2+ kids, you notice how much easier it is when one of them is gone and wonder why it didn’t seem so easy the first time you had only 1 kid.
My youngest started kindergarten 2 weeks ago. The first day I missed both of mine but by the second day, I was enjoying being able to get things done without having to stop every few minutes to take care of some need or crisis!
I still enjoy having my sons around me, even though they’ve been with me almost 24/7 for their whole lives. (One is 20, the other is almost 17 - years.) The odd thing is, they actually enjoy being around me! With homeschooling them, I was with them so much of the time, I never felt guilty for the times they weren’t with me.
I also homeschool my son, and work a full time job. There are days when I can’t wait to get to work for the peace and quiet and other days when I have a hard time pulling myself away from home. Love the kid, but love having time away too. oh and btw I work at a walmart. thats my peace and quiet at times.
(I’m posting this info on some of the more heavily commented GoComics sites. Feel free to repost.)
If you’re reading comics at GoComics, you’re probably also reading comics at comics.com.
And if so, you’ve noticed that Comics.com has been down hard since Saturday.
The comics.com site hasn’t shut down and it’s not the victim of a hacking attack. The short version there’s a DNS problem. The site’s still there, but the Internet can’t find it. That’s why comics.com can’t put up a “We’re working the problem” sign on their main page. Well, they COULD, but it wouldn’t do any good. The rest of the internet couldn’t find the page.
The good news is that there’s a workaround to view the site and the strips. Go to http://www.softsailor.com/news/7155-comics-com-down-for-second-day-in-a-row.html and look for the comments by Comic Geek and patrick. I’d recommend reading the entire thread (it’s not that long), but the posts by Comic Geek and patrick are the importants ones.
Note that the workaround requires editing a system file. If you don’t know what “DNS” means, or you don’t know the kinds of problems you can create for yourself by incorrect editing of a system file, then you probably shouldn’t edit the system file. Find someone to help you edit the file.
I initially had problems with comics.com sites I had bookmarked as www.comics.com instead of just comics.com (note the leading www), but I think that might have been a typo that has since been fixed. In my case, changing all my comics.com bookmarks from www.comics.com to just comics.com fixed my problem.
I did a reboot in as well, but I’m not sure that was really necessary. A reboot can’t hurt, though.
NOTE: You’re have to re-edit the system file, to reverse the changes, once comics.com gets its DNS problem solved.
OK, it now appears that as I was posting my info on a workaround to the problems with the comics.com site, comics.com was fixing their problem. I’ve seen several people say that they can now get to the comics.com site without editing the system file.
If you’re still having problems getting to comics.com, wait a while before doing anything. First, the fixes comics.com made will take a while to propagate through the Internet. Second, the site will probably be heavily loaded for a while, due to people catching up on their favorite strips.
Just LOVE looking at these remarks. Don’t understand them (WAY over my teeny pea-brain) but glad some folks know what the hell they’re talking about. Will just hang in there. At least, guys, know I’m not alone in this vast comic world. TTFN, H
The other comics I read on gocomics may not know this infor. There are a lot of posters wondering what happened. Me I haven’t signed up yet.
I remember when my kids went to school they where exicted and the house was empty. Being a short day I waited to long to go back to school to catch up.
@CoBass, today I started reading all my favourite comics after 9 pm, and I had no problems getting to the three I had had trouble with:
Ben
Luann
Peanuts.
So should I assume it’s all fixed now? I didn’t make any changes to any files. Computers has been my profession for years, and when someone suggests making changes to a system file I don’t know anything about, I just drift off into a parallel universe where my mind goes blank… I think it’s safer for my computer that way….

Dont worry about that, just enjoy it, because it’ll all be over soon.

Stay with the second of the three panels, Mom. You’ll be glad that you did.

Oh, and before I forget, happy Labor/Labour day, I hope all of you remain safe, and enjoy it.

You’ll feel guilty until Micheal gets home. Then you’ll wish you took more of an advantage of it.

There hasn’t been a child born yet good enough so his/her parents weren’t glad when he/she fell asleep.

Women get bored with panel two sooner than the baby grows out of nap time.

My experiance, guilt leaves after his first day off, then you remember why his being gone all day just might be a good thing
