Now just for fun, see if you can spot which of the Patterson neighbours are in each of the costumes. Which ones are Connie Poirier and Greg Thomas, Anne and Steve Nichols, and Keith and Carol Enjo?
It is none of Michael’s business what John and Elly do. Michael is a piece of property of his parents, and can be used, controlled, bought, and sold at their disgression.
Had the party held a jack-o-lantern contest, their entry would have defeated the competition by a landslide. (https://www.gocomics.com/forbetterorforworse/2015/10/25)
This is that moment we all have when we realize our parents are human beings, with lives and pasts that don’t center around us. Mine came when my mother told me how she fought with her mother and moved out on her own when she was dating my father. Dad was 23 years older than Mom, and my grandmother was not pleased about that. (Happy ending, though: ultimately they reconciled, my grandmother came to love my father, and my parents were happily married for 22 years until my Dad passed away.)
I might have been in my 30s or 40s when Mom told me about that, but I still remember how I suddenly saw her in a very different light.

Michael and Elizabeth are appalled. The source of their embarrassment is apparent. Both parents, actually.

I wonder if Mike is going to be the one to tell them to turn the music down…

Reminds me of some great Halloween parties I used to throw and some I’ve attended. Who says Halloween is just for kids?

Michael is astounded that his parents are actually people who like to have fun. He thought only kids wanted that.

You don’t quit having fun because you grow old, you grow old because you quit having fun.

Elly is a hula dancer when she is white. That is cultural appropriation. It is racists like Elly who make life hard for us protected classes.
