I think that my wife an I have a perfect relationship. If you were to ask her who has the better deal in our marriage, she will tell you she does. I know better, but I am perfectly happy to allow her to persist in the delusion.
“Perfect” is in the eye of the beholder. A perfect relationship isn’t one where nothing ever goes wrong or where nobody ever disagrees – that’s a fairy tale.
I would consider a relationship to be perfect if both parties are happy with each other most of the time and neither seriously wants to make a significant change to the other. Where each person brings qualities that the other lacks and there is no resentment over that fact, allowing the couple to live better and happier than either could as single people.

“Perfect” relationships—of whatever kind—take a helluva lot of work and thoughtfulness. . .more than 250 pages’ worth.
