I once ended up with mosquito larvae in one of those pools.

They need to move over to (Stone Soup) Alix’s wading pool!

I thought those little plastic pools were the coolest thing when I was Calvin’s age!

He needs to go into the next neighborhood, to Lio’s house. That pool has all kinds of creatures and goes deep too !

Wonder what a wet stuffed tiger smells like?

‘Shades’ of ‘Alix’(Stone Soup) and her backyard pool—only in THIS case, she has a better imagination than ‘our intrepid hero’ ! ! ! !

I could never get snorkels to work when I was a kid. They had to keep resuscitating me.

The next panel was going to be Calvin shouting “Stop looking at my butt, Hobbes!”

Kind of hard to see stuff when the water is only a foot or two deep…

This makes me think of a Mitch Hedberg quote:

“I saw a commercial for an above-ground pool. It was 30 seconds long. You know why? Because that’s the maximum amount of time you can depict yourself having fun in an above-ground pool. If it was 31 seconds, the actors would’ve said, ‘What am I supposed to do now? The water’s only up to here! What should I do now, throw the ball back to Jimmy? Or put some goggles on and look at his feet?’”

The only real fun thing about snorkeling in a pool, is saying the word snorkel. Snorkeling in the ocean, or even a fair sized pond, can be interesting though. Even seeing leeches in their natural habitat is intriguing.

Lots of wading pools have fish printed in them, I guess Calvin’s did not.

Don’t they have any creeks or ponds nearby?

We used to go up to Clear Lake, CA. Oxymoron if there ever was one. Couldn’t see a thing with the algae

Snorkeling in inland Ohio.

Calvin, Calvin, this isn’t Lio anymore

Well, you can stay about 12 inches underwater, for what ever that is worth.

And Hobbes goes for another spin in the dryer. WHEEEEE!!

Calvin has learnt a universal lesson at this young age. If you want to find the sea shells, you need to dive deeper.
