After all, what is a password, if not a “magic spell” that gets you to something valuable…?

Knew a guy in Boeing who got chastised by management for using the password “a**hole” for his IBM mainframe account, so he changed it to “b*tthole”.

At least it isn’t a “tub” generated password. I could never remember those password. But maybe since the Wiz is dealing with spirits it should be passward. He must have a lot of wards set up to guard his laboratory.

But will he remember said password or have to store it somewhere where he can access it?

At GE training classes, we were usually given a password to use: “pa$$word”. Wow, how clever! /s

    Data security trivia:

Not all that long ago the default unix password system (I forget what the technical name for it is) used a ten bit “hash” for password authentication. All passwords would be processed into a ten bit hash and compared it to the stored hash. It must have seemed secure to somebody, but it meant a carefully selected list of 1024 words contained all passwords necessary to access literally any account, past, present, or future. “Dictionary attacks” using such lists put an end to that nonsense.

However, all modern password systems store our passwords as a hash, but usually a 64 or 128 bit hash. That oughta do it!

‘correct horse battery staple’ is better, and easier to remember. Which is why half the Internet knows it now.
