Had a fairy ring in my garden few years ago but had to get rid of it on account of the dogs, and I didn’t want mushrooms in the yard period. However my wee fairies didn’t come out to play until evening. How about it, Fred? Did yours make an appearance during g the day?
Interesting, I’ve only ever heard of a circle of mushrooms called a “fairy ring” in a book by Wilson Rawls “Summer of the Monkeys” same author who wrote Where the Red Fern Grows." Curiously, I’m currently reading SOTM with my class.
I wonder if the fairy ring is in Witches’s Wood. When I was growing up in the 1970s, I read two Fred Basset strips which were set in Witches’s Wood and mentioned it by name. Witches Wood seems to bring out Fred’s imaginative and superstitious side.

Just don’t let Yorkie or Jock eat those mushrooms Fred, they are poison! But you knew that!

That was my first impression when I saw the title The Fellowship of the Ring in a Scholastic Books flyer.
