Do people still write checks? I do only for non-recurring things like charitable donations (I’ve recently come up with a way to track these on my credit card) or contractors.

My wife uses a check at the supermarket, but they run it through a machine and give it right back to her – so it works like a debit card.

We haven’t given them up yet. While we have reduced the number of places we use them, they give a sense of continuity. It’s one of the few customs that have not fallen off the grid.

I have not written a cheque in 40 years. CC, debit and cash work well. I have one CC that I use for the exceedingly small amount of online shopping i do.

The only time I ever write a check nowadays is to pay my alterations lady because she doesn’t take credit cards. I’m really thankful for that, too, because my arthritis is making it harder and harder for me to write legibly.

A local wedding venue used to do a series of radio advertisements – the bride’s father was always saying that his main duty was to write checks…

I still write checks, not as many in the past, but I still write some.
