Ah, I see the Topsider IT Department showed up finally. The “Turn it off and then on again” approach didn’t work; time for a reset, which is turning it off and on again but you roll backwards as well. All IT is variations of “Turn it off and on again”.
“What’ll we do if we found out the world was going to end in ten minutes?” / “We could all make love.” / “Yeah, but what’ll we do with the other nine and a half minutes?”
Manual Reset: “If you can not see the screen or if program(s) will not exit or respond to commands, and holding the reboot button does not restart the computer, you would need to do a Manual Reset. First, unplug or turn power off to the machine. WAIT until all the disks stop spinning and are completely at rest. This may take up to ten minutes depending on the disk(s) drives installed. Now could be a good time to find your back up media. It may be a tape, 10 inch floppies or punch card deck depending on the machine and configuration. After the disk(s) stop, plug in or turn on power and press the boot button. The main screen should inform you that a non-normal stop occurred and would prompt you to run the debug program, enter YES. As the computer does an analyses and tries to replace corrupted or missing files, it may prompt you for backup media. Install in the backup media in the first location (whether tape drive 1, Floppy disk reader 1 or the main punch card reader). If this does not work, you may need to enter Format C: and rebuild the machine. Please give yourself at least 9 hours to accomplish this task.”1985 Unix Workstation manual which was also used for a DIGITAL compact main frame computer.

there is ALWAYS a manual reset, is the switch next to the radioactive power core or in a tunnel that will be filled with molten lava?

Is this a plan to send them out to die, or is this a plan to send the mutants out to die?

Of course it’s the ONE thing not covered in the manuals.

Sure, why not? All you need to is pull the plug out of the wall socket, wait five seconds, then plug it back in. What could go wrong?

This would be a good time for the laws of interreality merging to kick in and have an incredibly unlikely save on the part of the Hero.
