I have ancestors dating back to the Mayflower. Does that mean I should no longer be proud of that heritage? All this politically correct BS has got to end!
gentrify — change the character of (a poor urban area) through wealthier people moving in, improving housing, and attracting new businesses, typically displacing current inhabitants in the process.
If your “Heritage” isn’t materially life-supporting or life-threatening, beyond your control, you are eligible to carry on a tradition, or overcome one. Up to you. PC itself is not PC.
I figured Barney went quiet because he wasn’t sure of the answer. The neighborhood may be ritzy, but it it’s been that way a very long time, “gentrified” seems misleading.
I don’t recall it ever being implied that Barney comes from “old money;” his Dad doesn’t seem like he grew up rich.
Of course, one may come from an old family and not be old money, but the implication here is that the mansion (or at least the property) has been in the family since the get-go.
So they live in Plymouth? Doubt it could be Provincetown, even though the Mayflower “dropped anchor” there first, they didn’t stay due to the lack of fresh water.
