I am told…though I never did it…that at one time kids would pry a hunk of road tar out of the road and chew it if they couldn’t have/get/buy gum. True? False? Enlighten me, my friends!
There’s a street in Ft. Lauderdale, FL called “Sample Road”. Perhaps Grandma took a piece out of that to make the cookies. I mean, the name tells you what to do.
One year my great grandma made a cake. No one finished their cake, but I thought it was good and had a second piece. I was told later that the cake had meal worms in it that had infested the flour. I still haven’t forgiven them for not stopping me from eating it.

So, Grandma’s not so much a cook as she is a chemist?

I love a chewy cookie, but glue and road tar are a bit much.

I’m curious as to “Grandma sent them over”. FedEx? UPS?

I only eat those kind of cookies if they’re made with Elmer’s. I’m a chewy cookie snob.

Is it Petey being picky or are the cookies really too inedible? I like soft cookies better than crunchy cookies so chewy might be OK.

Molasses, glue and road tar: Ick. What kind of fiend would put molasses in cookies?

Petey’s picky food rating has to take a beating from just looking at them!

That is the side effect of baking with hard cooked eggs that are peeled by throwing them at cars!

Try a bite or two, Alice. Then let’s see what you have to say, if indeed you can say anyting. Didn’t you see Mom’s face in panel 2?
