A friend complained that her kids kept buying more stuff than she wanted them to spend every year. She said they just wouldnât listen. I asked her if she bought more than they wanted, and she said yes. I asked how she could expect them to listen to her if she wonât listen to them? Hmmm.
Many years ago, my new bride and I celebrated our first Christmas together. At my request, she gave me a list of possible gifts and I bought every single item on her list. I also bought one that wasnât. I have never lived that one down. In addition to clothes, jewelry, perfume, I also boughtâŚ.a new vacuum cleaner.
Most of our extra money goes into travel. As presents, my wife gave me a jacket and sunglasses to replace the ones I lost on our last trip (and a set of Batman DVDs). I gave her three packs of her favorite chocolates and a promissory note for a new camera (mine wore out, and her current one is heavier than she likes to carry, so Iâll take it over).

I understand your pain Janis, my late wife would get me a dozen gifts mostly stuff I didnât need even though weâd agreed to a gift limit!
