Every time Bolling draws a cartoon in this Louis series, I wish heâd demo more understanding. The kidâs probably got ADD (the AD side of AD/HD): spaced out, living in his head, slow to pull it together, quick to have it slip from his grip again. Getting stick from everyone because they think he just needs to âconcentrate for a change". Not much fun.
I knew a lot of bright, smart kids who were like this. Because they were so bored to tears over rote learning that they simply tuned out to school but found interest and even hope in things like comic books and the like. Of course the schools, board of education (which should have been called âthe school boredâ), and parents who didnât know/couldnât care about why these bright kids were âunderperformingâ, and still worse chose to call them âunderachievingâ in their âinfinite wisdomâ of course simply chose to blame comicbooks instead of coming up with challenging and interesting set of lesson plans.
Seems it was just too much work to teach smart, even brilliant people and so the parents, most teachers, and almost all of the school systems figured that âunderachievingâ was indeed their best solution as well and then forced âteaching to the testsâ upon all students as their one and only way to go.
Just look where that brilliant idea got us.
Can you say âcovfefeâ and âhamberdersâ? And can you say âI love the poorly educatedâ too? How about saying, âBetsy DeVosâ perhaps?
A lot of science fiction from the â50s and before was about adolescent wish fulfillment. E. g. âSlan.â More recent examples still crop up. Consider "Enderâs Game" and âDune.â
I thought for sure that the last comic of 2021 would feature âLucky Duckyâ contracting COVID and receiving a $350,000 hospital bill that he canât pay right before being taken off life supportâŠ.GOTCHA!!!
Eh, itâs not that great, Louis. I got recruited to one of those schools for telekinetic prodigies, and they never got past teaching us to pass the mustard.

A lot of things are changing, mostly for the worse, but some things never change: school is boring and sucks. Play more video games, kids.
