Maybe it would help if administrators listened to the teachers and understood they were concerned about returning to a job where there is little protection for the teacher, and by proxy, the teacher’s family and loved ones.

And this is the perfect example of the loony left and their ability to pick and choose what fits their narrative as posted by @baroden. His comment is there’s little protection for the teacher. What about protection for factory rats, office workers, Hospital workers, people who work in and stock the grocery stores so the rest of us can still have food on our tables? Doctor offices? Dentist offices? By his standards, we should simply close everything. Period. Since that’s the logic he’s using. Teachers have no more to worry about than anyone else especially in light of the fact that the poor kids, who are least likely to be carriers, are forced to wear masks that ultimately affect their oxygen intake over and 8 hour period which affects their acuity. And before you say it, those teacher’s family and loved ones? Are the teachers living in a bubble? I don’t think so. They’re living. Out in the world. And bringing whatever home by extension. Your illogical logic is ridiculous.

Blaming the teachers? Ramirez is telling everyone he never went to school without telling everyone he never went to school.

Aren’t the Republicans the ones that don’t want actual history taught in schools?

My wife taught in three systems in her career. She and her colleagues were devoted to their work. She was a staunch union teacher.

The faculty at my last university, where I spent the bulk of my career, became unionized a few years shortly after I was tenured. The great majority of faculty joined. That had far more effect on our health benefits than on our dedication to students, discipline, and college

At least the UNIONS are looking out for the welfare of their teachers and students!

What is behind “ schools must stay opened” during a pandemic?

Politicians certainly don’t have the best interest of the students in mind…..

One has only to hear the name “TEACHER’S union” and realize who they are for. There is no “STUDENT or PARENTS” union. WE have to stand up for ourselves to the teachers and administrators and school boards!

Yeah, when the little ones are back in remote learning, because half the faculty and staff are ill….

A union has one job, to advocate for the working conditions of it’s members. I find it strange that anyone who believes that liberty is the primary goal of the American endeavor, would have a problem with this. Apparently Mr. Ramierez does.

Children are not immune to Covid. Four of my six grandkids have gotten it. The fact that they got it at daycare or at school, from other kids, also shows that they can spread it. If schools are unwilling to take precautions to prevent Covid from spreading, then teachers are absolutely correct in objecting.

The media has done a great job of terrifying the public. Citing how many positive tests gives them huge numbers, what they aren’t telling you is that the death rates are at the lowest since this fiasco started two years ago. Also hospitalizations are low with much shorter stay times. But terror is what sells in Corporate Media. I miss the responsible days of Murrow, Cronkite, and Huntley/Brinkley.

Teachers are required to spend many years preparing themselves to educate our young people. Men like Ramirez would have them work long hours for low wages. Teacher’s unions fight for a fair wage and benefits.

Give the unvaccinated their own schools and tell them to find their own teachers.

Note the “School Choice” sign, where they further defund public education in order to siphon money into “for profit” education schemes that benefit the well-off already. Another Ramirez trope.

Right. It wasn’t a botched response to the pandemic by The Former Guy, or millions of people refusing to get vaccinated. It was a union. Brilliant.

I sorta wonder about people who oppose teachers’ unions and yet also assume generally that people only work for making personal financial profit from their work. Maybe teachers are supposed to be “above” making a living wage and sacrifice all that for the students?
