Originally, you were supposed to supply your own potato for Mr. Potato Head. They came out with the plastic potato later. That was the whole idea: kids like playing with their food, so let them and make it a game.

I had that as a kid. I got to play with it, then ate the potato for supper. Just don’t use Chia looking potatoes though :p)
