We have been massaging our Foster dog because he was in a nasty accident before we rescued him. I was told that he was either hit by a car or thrown from a car – we don’t know. When we first started massaging him, he hated to be touched, he had been in so much pain, and had serious trust issues with people. He was a terrible fear biter.
Now, he leans into it, groaning with pleasure. It helps his tight muscles and he finally understands that I just want to help him feel better.

Good thing he’s a dog. On a cat, that belly browsing is downright DANGEROUS!

So sad, time fades all the good parts. Remember those drive-in movies Earl you used to take Opal too.. Massaging was when you got slapped.

Actually, truth is stranger than comic strips.
The extra-large breeds are supposed to be massagedbecause they’re prone to leg trouble.

I’ve had a couple of rump thumping, they weren’t really all that satisfying.

Some cats like being patted on the back; some don’t. It’s important to figure out the difference in advance or you could be counting your fingers.
For dog lovers everywhere, the rump is below the tail. Above the tail is still the back.
