I bet that Red’s parents will not allow this. He made a bet that he could not guarantee. He did not have the authority to allow Rover to sit at the table.
When I’d get invited to dinner at friends, my late springer spaniel, Samantha, would get to attend too. She’d quietly sit under the dinner table and wait for handouts. Her springer predecessor, Shelby, did the same. Good gurls.

Well, no more sneaking food under the table.

Hmmm, only in France would that go over. Hey, still a victory, at least Rover got what we call a " seat @ the table"!

When my kids were still at home, we ate dinner together. There was a rule no snacking before dinner also.

The “family unit” fell apart when shopping malls opened and credit cards became vogue.
My family ate dinner together every night, and my kid’s family do the same. Tradition, teaching, bonding

Red took the bet for Rover’s sake rather than his own.

Later during the dinner: (Red to Rover) “You going to eat that?”

I had a cat that would sit in her own seat and politely wait for any offerings. She was also Jewish. I miss that cat.
