How does one possibly lose a necklace down the toilet when you are only tall enough to just look over the seat? Seems like the logistics of that maneuver would be a little tricky.
There are two heirloom rings—turquoise beads and three rubies in a row—somewhere under the drain from our house. My mother lost them down the basement sink, having taken them off to do a grubby cleaning job, and they have never been found. The only real jewels of any value that we had…they sometimes haunt my dreams.

Spud, by pure accident, managed to speak truth to power. That is, the power he has to confuse people really bad.
Rose, keep the necklace. Just keep it away from Spud.

If anything falls in, you are supposed to clean it off with the toilet brush.

Well, we agree on that much, Spud.

No matter how much you scrubbed it, that necklace will have been in the toilet.

Got a chuckle from the seagull peeking over the rim of the toilet.

Isn’t that Spud’s circuitous way of saying “Rose, you have my old turquoise necklace“?
