I had a blind friend in college who looked and acted so normally that once when we were ordering bagels, the guy behind the counter got impatient because she didn’t see him. I nudged her, so she ordered, then when she went around the corner, he saw her guide dog. His face went into pure embarassed shock! It was pretty funny. I told my friend and she laughed. Her mother had taught her from birth how to sit and behave like the sighted because she didnt want her to look like Stevie Wonder or Ray Charles ((thats not a slam on black entertainers-they were just the most visible examples her mother had to refer to). It obviously worked!

“See you again” was not vision-related in this case, Joe.

Once had a business related conversation with a blind woman. Before we hung up she said “see you later.”

Blindness is not an absolute. There are many levels of impaired vision.

Blind folks often use “sighted” terms like “See ya later.” Makes much more sense than “Hear ya later!”

If the postcard was transcribed, how would Marcy know it was originally in braille?

One of Stevie Wonder’s songs had the lyric, “Lately I’ve been looking in the mirror.”

So if two blind friends are dating, are they still “seeing” each other?

I used to be able to write in Braille, level one. I still get a kick out of checking signs that have Braille on them — ATMs, elevators, etc.
