This Sunday was the result of a “what if” scenario. I was in a department store change booth trying on bathing suits with a growing sense of doom. Everything seemed designed to accentuate my worst assets. My daughter was old enough to know not to escape and lead me on a chase through a busy mall, but the thought crossed my mind. What if I had to run out in public wearing the disastrous suit I was struggling into? This idea made its way onto the Sunday page, and the result was a flood of letters from other moms similarly disgusted by the cruel offerings foisted on us by bathing suit manufacturers.
It’s been a long time since I tried on a swimsuit, but I seem to recall a little label that said to try the suit on over your underwear. Her panties should be showing!
I know what sizes I wear, so just order online. Do the stores in the US sell the skirted swimmers separately from the matching panties? They do in Australia, which actually helps, two different sizes for me :)
Land’s End company used to have an online virtual size model. You entered your height, weight, and measurements, and your virtual model showed how it would look on your body from all angles. My model really was proportioned just like me, and it made swimsuit shopping so much more private and predictable. (you could get all separate pieces in whatever size you needed) It was a wonderful service, and I miss it greatly.

Elly looks good for her age even in that very unflattering clown suit.

Who designed the cups on that suit, Madonna?

The best design for a woman’s swimsuit is vertical stripes! They make you look taller and thinner…

Is it just a drawing mistake, but did Elly’s hips grow some 5 or 6 sizes larger between panel 4 and panel 7?

Hey, El, that suits for you: great legs and back. How about posing for me, sometime?

Many things about this offering today are just simply hideous.

I have no idea why she chose to try on THAT suit. The clown cups bra is pretty repulsive.
kaycstamper almost 3 years ago
She probably pulled the suit up over her underpants, then removed the bra, and then finished putting the suit on!

I thought she’d be in panties and bra when she noticed April not in the changing room…
vickie.105 almost 3 years ago
It would be much funnier if she still had her bra and panties on as she should when trying on a swimsuit.

Don’t wear the suit; you scared the poor kid.

Also, has Lynn ever actually seen someone run before? I imagine Elly’s gait as something similar to Frankenstein’s monster.

One piece of advice, when you go shopping, never take your young daughter with you, they always run away out of curiosity “what’s out there”.

Elly knows that April is, shall we say, a hand full, The kid should have been left at home with her care givers — Liz and Farley.

If I was April, I’d run too.

Why was she carrying April instead of putting her in a stroller? Who carries a toddler while shopping?
