Reminds me of those great times in the troop when the Scouts would start complaining about their parents controlling “their” stuff. I kept copies of a Texas Family Code statute often called, “The Parents’ Bill of Rights” that says minors own nothing, it all, their clothes, toys, games, etc., belongs to the parents, no matter how they got them, any money they earn or are gifted belongs to the parents, and the parents own it all and control it all. Resulted in much gnashing of teeth and expressions of disbelief and dismay. Rough civics lesson for the twerps.
Happy Birthing Person’s Day (going for the politically-correct, woke-ish, gender-neutral, non-cultural-appropriating, non-micro-aggressing well-wishes here)!!
The “Awwww, gee” sentiment of the last panel notwithstanding, every panel preceding speaks volumes about the second most self absorbed kid in all of comicdom.
Not to butt in on Mothers’ Day, but she reminds me of my youngest as a toddler. One time I was picking her up from Sunday School and had to wait because she was still eating her snack. As I chatted with the teacher, another little girl came over and hugged my leg. My daughter jumped up from the table, pushed the other girl and sternly said “MY daddy!” She’s 20 now and we’re still very close.

The Toddler’s Creed
“If I want it, it’s mine.
If I give it to you & I change my mind later, it’s mine.
If I can take it away from you, it’s mine.
If I had it a little while ago, it’s mine.
If it’s mine, it will never belong to anybody else, no matter what.
If we are building something together, all the pieces are mine.
If it looks like mine, it is mine.” Anon

One morning, my young daughter, Katie, was tallying up all the things around her that were “hers.” I was very happy to be one of them!

With a mother as selfish as Elly, it’s hardly surprising that ‘MINE’ would be April’s first word!
