I thought that it was Dizzy Dean who said that.

Baseball. A mistery to me, maybe because I’m not American. Soccer. A mistery to me even if I’m Italian and the only thing I know is that we have won the world championship 4 times. And I don’t care.

Yogi was right, though. You just never know what’s going to happen in baseball.

Said Ranger Smith when he caught the bear with the last picnic basket.

Some other quotes attributed to Yogi Berra, just thought they were worth sharing.

“No one goes there nowadays, it’s too crowded.”

“Love is the most important thing in the world, but baseball is pretty good, too.”

“In theory there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice there is.”

“The future ain’t what it used to be.”

“Ninety percent of the game is half mental.”

“I never said most of the things I said.”

I have seen some crazy games in my time that support Yogi’s statement, but that wasn’t one of them. In this case, it was over hours ago.

    Yogi Berra – baseball philosopher.

“When you come to a folk in the road…take it!” is wise advice that Hamlet would have been well-served by.

The only REAL sport is Horse racing, Everything ELSE is just a Game!. Nothing beats the enthusiasm as they hit the stretch, it is over in less than 2 minutes and you can get on with your day.

It would be kind of silly to watch the game until the very last out and then quit.

You have to believe if you’re a true fan.

I find the same is true of soccer. A team can be down two goals at the half, with ten minutes left in regulation time and then, bam, bam, bam, the losing teams turns the table. I coached a youth team once that was ahead by three goals at the half. But, much as I tried to tell them at the break, my guys got a big head and the other team scored two goals in rapid succession. My guys realized what I was trying to tell them earlier, shored up their defense and managed to score another goal before the final whistle, but that’s how fast things can turn around in sport.

Baseball on TV is better watched alone or with actual baseball fans and never with a non fan, especially snarky ones …

As a Cardinal Fan, I’ll never forget the nail-biting sixth game of the 2011 Series, where they were down to their last strike twice, but came through to win it and then the seventh, as well. I know I’m prejudiced, but I believe their late-season comeback, the playoff games, and that World Series made that one of the greatest baseball seasons ever. And of course, the Rally Squirrel and the hometown boy being the big hero, it was like it was preordained…
