Another sign of advancing age. Every price is met with Janis’ expression (panel 2) and the exclamation “How much?!”

I was just thinking it’d been a really long time since I’d heard the exclamation “ye cats” .. but then I realized it’s been even longer since I’d heard someone say “putting on the dog”.

The extra benefit of cooking at home is a far less risk of food poisoning, fewer adulterated meals, “error” in the bill and dealing with people who have no concern about you and who want to be elsewhere.

I do not miss eating out and we use that money from the budget to purchase better quality groceries. We also eat much healthier.

So far at home we have never complained or sent anything back to the kitchen.

When our oldest son was looking for a first car he lusted over a used Buick Riviera because of the power and low price (very used). I advised him that fuel economy is important because it keeps coming at you. Same with food… it adds up to shocking numbers in a year.

“Putting on the dog”??? That was a new one for me. I had to look it up to be sure my guess was correct. Do they have an Obscure Sayings List they consult? I’ll have to add that to my repertoire.

Off topic: The war for independence began today. Later, Jefferson’s original draft of the Declaration had “…life, liberty, and property.” His view about a natural right to property was considered to be radical.

Sorry beef ranchers, our grocery budget does not allow for a medium-sized roast at $35 or two T-Bones for the same amount or even more. We’re eating chicken, pork loin, and lean ground beef. Occasionally some sliced pepperoni for when we want to make a pizza.

It’s interesting to see how many people grocery shop (including my wife) who never look at the prices of the things they put into their buggy. (Honey, those two steaks are $35.00)

It’s funny how many people have to ask on here what does the term mean when we are on the computer as we read this and can take a few seconds to look up the meaning. “Putting on the dog vs Puttin’ on the Ritz”. Would that be a viable comparison?

Eating while a mandatory thing we all must do, it is also a source of great pleasure. Life without any pleasures is not much of a life. Have some ice cream also….

We buy the whole tenderloin at Costco, slice them to our preferred thickness, and then use a Food Saver to freeze them. They taste fresh cut months later and are very economical.
