I am not sure Mike is old enough to drive even in Canada. Back on June 11, Mike at work looked like he was at least 16 or 17 years old. This must be a flashback because here especially in the second last panel Mike looks no more than 11 or 12 years old!
This scenario dates back to the days when my brother and I lived at home. Dad saw my brother washing his car and was delighted until Al, preparing for a date, asked for the keys!
People, this was from 1993, comics were still in their infancy. Cartoonists used to hand draw each panel, handwrite in the words, and didn’t really have digitized sets as they do now. I agree with many who said, you are missing the joke. (You are missing the forest for the trees). Happy father’s day to all those who hold this title!!!

For Mike, there’s usually an ulterior motive. And why not?

Good thing I never let any of our 4 kids borrow my hot rod, they would likely have totaled it.

Nothing wrong with getting Dad a present that we can all use. …first.

You just blew it, Mike. Now the real reason you washed the car comes to mind. Though, maybe Dad will be the one who takes it for a spin.

My Dad had good protection against I and my bro asking to use his car. It was a Studebaker Lark station wagon with a manual shift on the column.

Funny… I thought all the cars in Canada had square wheels…

If you think washing the car will make your dad forget your attempted joyriding a while back, you need your head examined!
