At the grocery store at which I’m employed, we employees get discounts on certain items and on company-branded items. In my case, helps me save on my EBT.
I had that problem back in my youth when I started working graveyard shift at a convenience store. Though it was a fairly easy habit to break. Convenience store food isn’t known for it’s high quality.
My very first job was working the concession stands at an amusement park. One of the perks was that we could buy tickets at a discounted price for the items we sold. I didn’t spend a lot of money on them.
My next job that I held through the remainder of high school and college was working in a grocery store / delicatessen – I got free lunch there. That was a GREAT benefit. I am glad I am not working there anymore, because I would weigh about 400 pounds, but at the time, my metabolism was like Peter’s: 6 meals a day and still not gaining weight.
In the mid to late 1990s, I worked for Good Humour, RIDING one of their ice cream bikes around London, Ontario.
Most days in July and August (after 12 hours), I’d go home with $120-$150 in cash. Not great, but, for someone who was 17 or 18, that was good cash back then. On scorcher days I’d have a few Rocket’s (they were cheap, and mostly water.). Good times.
When I worked for McDonald’s 50 years ago the owner didn’t give us a break of prices. Paid me a whole $1.50/hr, too. After 3 years I was up to a whopping $1.65.
Even if it’s $1, it’s still worth cashing (if your bank or financial place doesn’t charge you to cash your checks). It’s still cash you didn’t have a few minutes ago.

Jake: Uh, Bob, about the money for tonight.
Bob: Oh, yeah, $200, and you boys drank $300 worth of beer.

Peter needs a job without such easy access to snacks. Need a summer office boy at your company, Roger?

This is only a comic strip. In the real world, Peter would have dead from an infarction years ago.

Reminds me of the Blues Brothers when they did their gig at the cowboy bar and discovered the drinks were not, in fact, on the house. ;-)
