As long as we’re vanquishing stereotypes, coyotes can outrun roadrunners.

Or mute, apparently. Although Wile E. also appears in some Bugs Bunny cartoons, where he does talk. Wikipedia has several pages devoted to various aspects of Wile E.’s career, and they differ on which came first, the Roadrunner-Wile E. Coyote cartoons, or Bugs Bunny-Wile E. Coyote.

Today I saw two coyotes in road ahead of me. The closer one tried to ascend a steep rock wall, so I slowed down when I got to the wall to see if I could see him. He must have climbed faster than I thought, or blended in.

RJ didn’t say all coyotes are stupid. In fact, since he said “Stupid coyote.”, he could have been pointing out that in his opinion this one (Wile E. Coyote) was stupid – perhaps unlike most coyotes.

On the other hand, just because some coyote does something stupid doesn’t mean we should call him (or judge him to be) stupid.

Ah, a new urban neighbor. So many adventures await the coyote. So many jokes that can be made. Especially if he pretends to be a domestic dog to gain entry into the people’s homes. What will the cats say?

I was shocked the first time I saw a real roadrunner, not blue with a long neck and didn’t go BEEP! BEEP!

We might see other cartoon coyotes later this week in Over the Hedge.

And Wile E was the subject of a failed Air Force/CIA project. All that ACME gear? Government Surplus.

Coyotes are mythological tricksters…it should really be the opposite of the cartoon situations…

which adds a layer of ironic humor I guess…

A coyote in “Over the Hedge”, huh? This should be a pretty interesting week.

They’re actually quite… um… wiley. I’ve come across many while hunting deer and they are incredibly intelligent. The ones around here are huge, too, and hunt in packs (most coyotes are solitary). They call them Coywolves.

That why we do not see the road runner anymore!

Every time I’ve seen a coyote, it looked like a medium-sized dog on stilts. This one doesn’t look like that.

Good addition. Coyotes are most definitely urban animals now. We have several families living in the neighborhood.

Ahem… road runner/coyote cartoons do not describe all road runners and coyotes, only The Road Runner and the vain, creative and inept Wile. E. Coyote.

I was just talking last night about how real coyotes outrun real roadrunners, but that need not be a mark against the cartoons. After all, this one could be the Speedy Gonzales of his species.

“We” (coyotes as a whole) might not be stupid, but “He” (the one on TV) definitely is.
