With NFTs, fine art as a commodity has become yet another scam. There is a reason that most of the enduring fine art was done by people who were not in it for the money. I blame Picasso. He took advantage of the advances in modern printing and self-promoted himself to artistic stardom. Some of his works are quite good but there are also millions of poster print copies sitting rolled up in attics.

What will it be, Calvin? A line of collectible custom snakes, or will it be worms?

Collectible figurines of the great philosophers? Great idea. Is that Schopenhauer or just an unfinished lump of clay?

Many artists are quite pretentious, and think that the willingness of people to buy what they create is somehow “irrelevant”. They think they’re entitled to money for what they do, which is why so many of them love government grants, which are essentially coerced payments.

Or write and illustrate an entertaining comic about a gifted boy with behavior issues and his wise stuffed tiger-just might sell!
