Is this trip really necessary? — A common slogan during WWII when the government tried to cut down on train travel by the general public. You’ll sometimes hear it as a punchline in Warner Bros. cartoons of the era.
Talked to a woman who had her first child at home with husband as helper. Did not go well for them, baby died and was buried in the back yard. Decided to make appointment for medical help with second pregnancy.
Since this is hardly the time to get into an argument, she needs to use a little psychology. Her best answer is simply, “Yeah, unless you want to deliver this baby all by yourself.”

Actually, many women do still have babies at home. You just don’t hear about it in the news. But this couple clearly hasn’t planned for that.

(And you don’t want to know what kind of mileage an ambulance gets. Oh, and that’s in billable miles, of course.)

Two for the price of one. First maternity ward, then the emergency room.
