If it were anyone else, I’d say that they’re only saying that because of their delusion.

Phoebe: I thought I could even star in my own comic strip and even Nicktoon where I get top billing over you..

Marigold: I’m not talking to you for another 24 hours.

I remember priding myself on being a friend to the friendless during school days. Sometimes I still wonder how those kids turned out. But I think Max will be just fine.

Oh, Phoebe, don’t try to “save” Max. Just hang out with him because you like to.

She’s right; a talking unicorn is grandeur. Even if she is vain.

Befriending people who are often alone is still worthwhile. While some may prefer to be alone, those who are lonely and don’t know how to make friends often value the gesture. Even if you don’t end up becoming friends, making the offer is still a “nice person” thing to do. If a friendship results, that’s wonderful. But don’t continue it in order to “save someone.” Be friends because you like each other.

NOTE: socially awkward people may take a little more effort to maintain friendship with, and it can be a little bit of a lopsided relationship, but is still totally worthwhile. My daughter is autistic, so I know whereof I speak. I am deeply grateful to her one and only friend for being willing to make an effort.

    “…saving outcasts from debilitating loneliness.”

Phoebe is echoing what she has heard others say about introverts. If someone is quiet, keeps to themselves and doesn’t cause trouble, why do so many people have a problem with this?

Ever stop and think that maybe Max chooses to live this way and is perfectly happy with it?

Marigold is a unicorn. They don’t have delusions of grandeur, they ARE one. Also, I think Max, and a LOT of introverts and auties, prefer to be alone. Something to do with managing stimuli.
