Old saw: a little dirt never hurt More recently some have pointed out that parents have become so reliant on keeping their children germ free and in controlled environments that some natural immunities have been lost. Makes sense.

Walking thru the tomato fields would make my jeans green. Didn’t wear shorts in the fields…

I love this kid!

I raised three sons and loved the smell of little-boy dirt and sweat after they had played outdoors all day. Would buy them new jeans and within a week the jeans had grass-stained knees. Never realized how fortunate I was until my career as a RN led me to do homecare for children with disabilities. One child I worked with could not stand or walk. So many times people said “new shoes?” No, they were not new. They just never became “worn”. Appreciate what you have, because you might not ever know just how fortunate you are.

True enough. My mom was always patching the knees of my pants. No, we did not wear torn up looking clothes.

Wasting a lot of other body parts if you really want to all you can out of life.

Don’t forget the elbows, bottom of feet and hands.

Mine were always green, brown or skinned!

Green knees just mean that (A. your mother allows you to go out to play with holes in your jeans and (B. you have been playing/rolling around in the grass with said jeans. BOTH of which mean you are a fun loving typical boy.

I was born in the 1960s. Grew up in the 1970s. Grass stains, scraped knees, etc.. It was a great childhood.

There is no better way to put then that.
