I do not think that counts as dining out.

Dining outside of her expectations.

“Ok, Dear.”, replies Gladys, “I’.ll just wear my backyard grill dress.”.

The Fresco’s will be over. You know Al and his family. They are such outdoor types.

at least she won’t have to cook it herself at least. :}

We have a very short summer here, so dining outside is a joy. Restaurants also have outdoor dining, Brutus!

When Brutus said “out;” he and Gladys obviously had attached different meanings to the word…and he might just be messing with Gladys.

Brings to mind Steve Goodman’s album title “High and Outside”. Depends on your perspective, is that an errant baseball pitch, or being outside and high, which might be at a typical American cookout these days.

Gladys isn’t upset about not going to a restaurant, she’s upset because she knows how bad Brutus is at grilling.

dining out and dining outside are not really the same thing

Gladys got excited thinking of dressing up and going out and ended up disappointed when she found out Brutus had a different idea.

A barbecue is really not meant to be fancy. (I even consider going on a picnic “eating out”.)

Took my 14 year old granddaughter, aka “Princess”, out for dinner at an upscale restaurant last night. The two of us talked, laughed, and discussed subjects of great depth as well as a few of whimsy for over two hours. It was a memory that will be difficult to ever duplicate. That would not have happened in the backyard. I write this with tears of gratitude in my eyes….
