Danaus plexippus is the scientific name (Genus species name) for the Monarch Butterfly common in the United States (and elsewhere). It is named after Danaus, a king (monarch) from Greek mythology. Plexippus was one of the 50 sons of Aegyptus, the twin brother of Danaus. (Info from Wikipedia)
