While Brutus, are you sure 3 minuets is enough to save on electricity?

The last TV I bought has a transformer block instead of a plug, so it draws power whether it is on or off.

The turning it on would cost more

Flipping thru my 35 selected channels yesterday, relaxing after yard work in the heat, only 6 had the scheduled show on. The rest were showing commercials. I clicked the info button to make sure I was on the right channel for the show I expected to see. There were then seven minutes of straight commercials – one was three minutes long and another over two minutes. I enjoyed the show for almost five minutes. There were then another four minutes of commercials. 20 minutes of wanting to relax and watch some show, but over 12 minutes were commercials. I turned it off and took a nap.

Now he’s winning.

Think how much you could save if you unplugged the tv.

Unplug any device not in use as they all tend to use the juice whether in use or not.

We have been experimenting with using fans to offset a higher thermostat. What I am wondering is what the break even point would be for electricity use. For example, would it use less energy to have the thermostat set at 75 with 4 fans going, than it would set at 74, with 0 fans going? Will need to look it up when done reading the comics.

If Brutus wants to save electricity with the TV, he might try unplugging it when they are asleep. TV’s never actually go off when you turn them off at the remote.

Not a bad idea. I turn the volume off during the commercials and do whatever small things l can do with the time l have. Some brakes go several minutes and l can get a lot of small chores done, fix some snacks AND hit the bathroom…

Now we know what Idiot came up with the Idle Stop feature used in so many vehicles these days. It was Brutus Thornapple.

Only Brutus Thronapple would think it is cheaper to save those two drops of gas than it is to put in a new starter after the current starter wears out prematurely.

Peacock will have reruns of races, if you try to skip sections of the race, they will not allow you to skip the commercials. You could be stuck watching 10 minutes or longer of commercials. So I quit watching anything on Peacock.

It figures, of all the ways of saving money, Brutus picks the least efficient way to do it.

Maybe Brutus could learn to use the “mute” button. He won’t save money, but he also won’t hear the commercials. Nah. He won’t try it.

Just like gas for cars. Flex fuel is cheaper but you don’t get as good of milage from it and they say driving at 55mph gives better milage b ut it takes longer to get there thus using more gas./ Doesn’t make sence sometimes!!

Turning on and off uses more electricity and gasoline, no matter the propaganda. Of course, skipping the commercials is far wiser now than in the past. Much more is involved than toothpaste, hairspray, clothes.

Well Brutus, if you live in Cuyahoga County, your tax dollars are paying for :The Cav’s arena , The Guardian’s ball field….PLUS extra to watch games on cable, dish or streaming. For the Browns.you can watch on broadcast, but your taxes pay for their stadium,for which they sold the naming rights to, an energy company embroiled in bribery schemes. YEA TEAM !

With the modern flatscreen, virtually nothing.

In my experience, most commercial breaks in sports events are only 2 minutes. They make up for it with 7-8 breaks in an hour compared to 5-6 in most programs.
