“Why are all the maps on the floor, Pierre? Would it hurt you to put them up on the walls like a normal person?” “I’m sorry sir, but I thought you would prefer them that way, given, you know, your height”
I propose a condensed version of these charts. Something small that you could read while riding a horse. Waterproof so that melting snow won’t make the ink run and yet flammable so that we can cook the horses.
What can one say of this little Corsican / Who went from Emperor to exile then back again. / History has failed to erase / His rather petulant face / From little statues and busts made of porcelain.

He set-out to create some “elbow room” for France and ended up with only a bit of Elba room to himself.

From conquest he cannot abstain/
He’ll be crossing the Rhine/
Grabbing your land and mine/
Prepare to absorb further pain//
He hopes to extend his domain/
From Russia to Southern Spain/
From the steppes to the beach/
But he will overreach:/
It’s a mania – “Nap” is insane..///
He will fight for whatever he craves/
He will cover poor Europe with graves/
But his reign will be brief/
And we’ll soon know relief/
For Britannia rules the waves.///
At Trafalgar he first met defeat/
(Lord Nelson accomplished that feat)/
Thus, to Europe confined/He soon turned his mind/
To the East – and its acres of wheat..///
He came to the end of his tether/
And his vision collapsed altogether/
When his dream egotistic
Overstretched his logistics
And he blithely ignored Russian weather..///
On the undulant Belgian plain/
He rolled the dice once again/
But a Prussian named Blücher/
Decided his future/
Though Wellington’s given the main…credit.
