My son came home from kindergarten one day and told me that some kid at school had headlights. He showed me the paper that theyâd sent home advising parents, and I realized he was talking about head lice.
Poor Kevin. Hard to characterize this as a victory, but, Ha! I canât wait to see what he looks like with a shaved head. Will Miles shave his too in solidarity?
I wonder if this is the origin story for the term cooties. Though I think cooties probably predates head lice, what with the prevalence of icky little girls.
Oh oh.. the entire class, maybe the entire school will have to be checked. Coats, jacket, sweatersâŠ.. My two girls when they were small ended up with head lice. Got them from a some kids they were playing with at a girl friendâs apartment place when we visited. Had my two girls stay in the bath tub when I discovered them on in their hair giving them their nightly bath. The lice must have just hatched. I went to the drug store, got the shampoo, combs and then went to the hardware store to get the sprays, etc. Gave my girls the full treatment. Shampooed their hair, used the comb to remove as many nits as possible. Trimmed their hair as well. I washed all their bed the living room, etc. Inspected hubby⊠not much there as he was balding, but stillâŠ.. Had hubby use the lice shampoo.. Then I took a shower with the shampooâŠâŠAfterwards every time my scalp itched I freaked out. But I never had them in my scalp. I crawled into bed about 2 AM.. Called work and left a message I wasnât coming in that morningâŠâŠ. What a nightmare.
The last time my kids had a round of head lice we went through seventy-five pounds of laundry detergent trying to wash everything, again and again and again. My high schooler blamed her brother in elementary school for constantly reinfecting everybody. Turns out they were using headphones in the language department at the high school without ever inspecting themâuntil enough of those teens found out it wasnât just their own head. The head of the department sent out a mass email and apologized to everybody. Writing this in case it helps anybody else out there track down a source.

Why are teachers always drawn as if they are a subspecies of trolls? My English teacher in high school was a babe.

So many teachers are so clueless about things that should be basic for anyone dealing with kids
