Lord Ronald Sutherland-Gowerâs Reminiscences: âThe patter of little feet, and the unconscious joyousness of children.â
OR
Henry Wadsworth Longfellowââs The Childrenâs Hour: âI hear in the chamber above me The patter of little feet, The sound of a door that is opened, And voices soft and sweet.â
Today my âbabyâ is starting her senior year of high school. Sheâs really looking forward to it. Sheâs 5th in her class, in Key Club & Choir, and is really hoping to make it the best year ever. (Itâs also the schoolâs 100th anniversary, so thereâs that.)
When my son was in high school, he had left a pair of shoes in the front hallâagain. As I bent down to pick them up, I noticed how big they were. I remembered how tiny his shoes had been just a short while ago. I realized he and his feet were now the size of an adult and it wouldnât be long before I would be wishing his shoes were still in the hallway.
Our schools started middle of August. Last week of August, parentâs, we are not one of the parentâs as ours our adults, 5 studentâs had guns in 5 different HS, a group of students got peppered spray for unruly conduct.

School days, school days
Dear old Golden Rule days
âReading and âriting and ârithmetic
Taught to the tune of the hickâry stick
You were my queen in calico
I was your bashful, barefoot beau
And you wrote on my slate, âI Love You, Joeâ
When we were a couple oâ kids
I always like Chuck Berry BetterâŠâŠ..
Up in the morninâ and out to school
The teacher is teachinâ the Golden Rule
American history and practical math
You study âem hard and hopinâ to pass
Workinâ your fingers right down to the bone
And the guy behind you wonât leave you alone
Ring, ring goes the bell
The cook in the lunchroomâs ready to sell
Youâre lucky if you can find a seat
Youâre fortunate if you have time to eat
Back in the classroom, open your books
Gee, but the teacher donât know how mean she looks
Soon as three oâclock rolls around
You finally lay your burden down
Close up your books, get out of your seat
Down the halls and into the street
Up to the corner and âround the bend
Right to the juke joint, you go in
Drop the coin right into the slot
You gotta hear something thatâs really hot
With the one you love, youâre makinâ romance
All day long, you been wanting to dance
Feelinâ the music from head to toe
âRound and âround and âround you go
Drop the coin right into the slot
You gotta hear something thatâs really hot
With the one you love, youâre makinâ romance
All day long, you been wanting to dance
Feelinâ the music from head to toe
âRound and âround and âround you go
Hail, hail rock ânâ roll
Deliver me from the days of old
Long live rock ânâ roll
The beat of the drum is loud and bold
Rock, rock, rock ânâ roll
The feelinâ is there, body and soul
