My first technician would turn off his hearing aids when he needed uninterrupted time to concentrate. No distractions allowed. Great idea by a wonderful mentor to a young engineer.
For all you non-Midwesterners, “hotdish” is a casserole made with ground beef, cream of mushroom soup and Tater Tots™. Other ingredients—such as cheese, corn, green beans or peas—are also added. A staple of family and church gatherings in Minnesota.

As Shrek would say, Earl is going the right way for a smart bottom.

Those earplugs must pick up an interesting cacophony of sounds, located in his back pocket. Especially after he eats beans.

My back pocket may be the best place for my hearing aids. I’ll put them in my shirt pocket – they’ll be able to listen even better from there.
You know what … I’ll set them out on the arm of the chair here while I go to the bathroom. Go ahead and continue while I’m gone.

My spouse accuses me of having selective hearing. I told her, “That is not true. I hear you now, and I don’t want to.”

Earl could listen some of the time and be nice. He’s deaf to anything but dinner. Like Roscoe.
