Clearly Varvel thinks that doing anything to promote ecological choices is unamerican and downright SOCIALIST (because that’s a trigger word). Article today about a study by folks with actual expertise who examined the cost of moving away from petro-fuel. It’s in the $TRILLIONS over the fairly short term. Oh, and that’s actually a NEGATIVE cost aka savings.
AS IF oil companies have not been receiving subsidies and preferential tax treatment, as well as exemption from anti-trust and restraint of trade laws for a century.
And if Wind and Solar plus Pixie Dust aren’t enough to keep people from freezing this winter, Old Slo Joe’s got Maduro and the Ayatollahs on speed dial. Just as long as they don’t drill in the US.
Yes invest Billions now or pay Trillions (probably Quadrillion) to repair all of the infrastructure that will be needed when the oceans rise and parts of the world (and America) are uninhabitable because of climate change
Do you think that if the cartoonist and the usual crowd of nattering nabobs of negativism were around in the late 1950s/early 1960s they would have been complaining about all of the subsidies going to that new-fangled computer industry?
I thought the big subsidies went to the oil companies. The Environmental and Energy Study Institute found that the US government alone spends $20 billion every year on direct fossil fuel subsidies. Of that figure, around $16 billion goes towards oil and gas, while the remaining $4 billion benefits the coal industry. Mar 28, 2022.
You know what, I’ll take that analogy. Why do we feed pigs lots of food? To make them fat so that they will give us tasty bacon. Why fatten up alternative energy sources? Because a fat, healthy alternate energy sector will help us kick the fossil fuel addiction we have and provide clean, cheap energy free of global politics.

Yeah, subsidies are supposed to go to oil companies so they can donate to republican politicians.

Government largess is supposed to go to the 1% in the form of unneeded tax breaks and PPP loans which never were intended to be paid back. Sheesh ….

About time we subsidize something that makes sense and will benefit us.

The effort it must take for Varvel and friends to stay actively ignorant about renewable energy has to be enormous.

Wrong animals, Gary. A pig is slaughtered and eaten once. Renewable energy is properly represented by a milk cow or a draught horse.
