I wish I’d had one of those missiles in my hand tonight. I as crossing the street with the light and some guy in a Caddy SUV almost ran me over. Would have loved to throw a rock at his window
I think the point of today’s strip is that we humans understand a great deal of science but still think in terms of ancient myth. I don’t mean that I think God is a myth but thinking of meteorites as God’s weapons is another sign that we still mythologicise nature.
“Ballistic” means falling only under the influence of gravity and “missile” is anything that flies through the air. So, rocks, as thrown by hunters, were quite literally the first ballistic missiles.
A “ballistic” rock would be one that was tossed up into the air and hopefully came down on target. A ballistic trajectory is usually like an arc, not a straight line, like I think Calvin plans to throw it, directly at a certain target.
I had a whirlwind (2 day tour) if Israel back in the ‘80s. I noticed that there seem to be rocks everywhere. That’s why I came to understand why stoning (not smoking pot) was very popular form of execution back in the day. Ammo everywhere you look.

I would think he’d like fossils. Dinosaurs and rocks, all in one! I started collecting fossils at around his age, maybe even younger.

King David would agree with you, Calvin. All he had was five smooth stones and a sling.

Cal probably could weaponize a feather, given a bit of time.

Geology rocks, but geography is where it’s at.

A good soldier truly knows his weapon. Apparently, sometimes vandals know there’s.
