Not far from the truth: there are pumpkin growing contests whose winners weigh over a ton, and with girth to match. How to handle a piece of fruit that weighs a ton is a problem.
I bought a small pumpkin once, maybe 2 or 3 pounds, and was going to cut it in half to make a couple of hanging bird feeders. I left it outside for a day, and when I was prepared to start the project I discovered that squirrels had chewed a hole straight through the pumpkin and eaten everything inside.
