One year in elementary school there were three of us boys with the same first name. Instead of the teacher using our last names she called one of us Little (My first name) Big (My first name) and I don’t remember the third kids. Instead of using just last names!
You can use their name with their last name initials. Amber B., Amber J. Ruthie would’ve hated being in my classes. There were always more than one of certain names. My teachers never knew how to handle that. They could ask one to go by her middle name or the formal version of the nickname (like Deborah for Debbie). If they don’t want to do that, ask if either has a nickname. There are ways around this problem that will satisfy the kids.
There was a time in Iceland’s history when child mortality was very high, and parents figured that some of their children would die, and they re-used names. The most common name for boys was Jón (the Icelandic version of John), and there would often be more than one child in a family with that name. When more than one survived, they were simply called “Jón 1”, “Jón 2”, etc.
George Foreman has five sons and two grandsons all named George Edward Foreman. His sons are George Jr., George III (“Monk”), George IV (“Big Wheel”), George V (“Red”), and George VI (“Little Joey”).
Half my Scout troop was named Mike (can well believe the World Almanac when it says the most common boy’s name in 1960 was Michael). I have a Nancy in each category of my morning prayers. And at one time between my wife and I we had sister Barb, sister-in-law Barb, ex-roommate Barb, and ex-girlfriend Barb. Then I had three different professional relationships with yet another Barb simultaneously. Lotta Sues and Susans in my life as well.

I wonder if this is the arc where Ruthie decides her and Joe’s names are now Lakeisha and Norbert…

Too bad “Amber” doesn’t lend itself to nicknames. Ammy? Amby?
