I have a T-shirt that features Charlie Brown in his hole-y ghost costume, but with an electric guitar slung over his shoulder. His dialogue balloon says “I gotta rock!”
If I am not mistaken, the year 1975 was the year of the pet rock craze. It was going full sizzle by this time, according to Wikipedia, but fizzled out after Christmas. If I even recall some people were handing out at Halloween little pebbles gift wrapped instead of candy. So Charlie Brown might actually be talking literally instead of metaphorically.
I remember a Chris Rock comedy routine: he said that in his neghborhood that Charlie Brown would be the most popular dude as everyone would want to hang out with Chuck and light up that rock!
I am in a rock tumbling face book group and someone or more than one person gives away small bags of tumbled (smooth) stones at Halloween. It is an interesting way to do something with the rocks.
Who would give a child a rock? We haven’t had kids to come by for trick-or-treat’n for many years. Even when I’ve put out the jack-o-lantern there were no takers. But, just in case, I wondered what I’d give a group of kids that did venture my way to call for treats. Cookies maybe, a few wrapped hard candies, perhaps. But, never, ever a rock.
She would take it if it was a diamond. When we were kids, my brother and I would wrap small rocks in foil and slip them in to kids bags as our mom was handing out the candy.
Did Charlie Brown getting only rocks on Halloween start in the strip first, or in the TV special? Meanwhile, “the version I heard was,” so many kids who felt sorry for him sent in some of their own Halloween candy to the local CBS station or newspaper that he has actually gotten more Halloween candy than any living person ever did.
When life gives you a rock, give it to someone who is in worse shape. I have two nieces who agree with me it was mean of people who gave Charlie Brown nothing but rocks.
Or, on the flip side, Charlie Brown sees his friend sad and gives her something to help PP feel better. It was all he had and he was willing to give it up.

Charlie Brown: What little he has he is willing to give/share.
Reminds me of the widow’s mite.

The reason Charlie Brown gets rocks is because the adults knew him even through his costume

So we are back to being on Nov. 1? I guess that makes sense. Why then were they talking about it being Veterans Day a week ago? That really threw me.

No, no, Peppermint Patty. You did get something from sitting in a pumpkin patch for a week. You got thoroughly chewed out.

I would have liked a nice rock. Some quartz or a pretty piece of granite. A small geode would be fabulous! Any little pebble would do.
