Those are either the biggest ants I’ve ever seen or the smallest leaves I’ve ever seen.

But leaf-cutter ants like Green leaves.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leafcutter_ant

They have some of the larges and most complex ant colonies. And they do seem to be healthy colonies. It is probably because the colonies are full of anty body’s.

I mow my leaves to little smithereens. It’s a “sit-down” job in my case (rider mower).

Okay, on a vaguely related note, do ants feel gravity? I mean, they pretty much walk anywhere they want. Is gravity even a factor in their lives?

With a good breeze an ant could fly on a single leaf. She would become the Wright brothers of antdom. With her hard exoskeleton she would survive crash landings (the old, “any landing you walk away from …”) so could repeatedly take to the air until she learned how to control the leaf.

Back in Byrneville Elementary School I used to gather fallen leaves to jump into. One day I got ready to go back in and the teacher ordered me to pile them back up. It was probably a substitute teacher and didn’t know they weren’t piled up when I went out there.
