I guess I need someone to explain the initial premise, “Sports are sports, but baseball is art.” to me. IMO, baseball doesn’t even qualify as a sport, let alone an art.
Looking at the definitions, it says that Art creates a product, so baseball is a Sport. But then what about Dance? Is that a Sport? Maybe the competition, or the unknown result, is what makes it a Sport??
This game is played on a rectangular playing surface of standardized dimensions, the size is the same everywhere it is played. The two teams are out there of equal number. The team with the object of play is on offence and the other team is on defence. The game is timed. The object is to drive through the opponent and put the object into the goal. What’s that sport? This other game is played on a field that can vary in dimension beyond the basics. (think the Green Monster or center field at the Polo Grounds). The team with the ball is on defence and the team without is on offence. The teams are not of equal strength on the field. The game can sometimes go beyond the limits, into extra innings, Free baseball. The object is to go home. Safe at home. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIkqNiBASfI

I don’t care if the life-drawing instructor is good looking as long as the model is.

Both baseball and art involve swing a stick around. But the lousy ones just swat the stick around and still think they’re an artist.

Art is whatever people say it is!
Excrement thrown against a wall or exquisite renditions of beauty, nature and imagination of wonder that excites the soul!
Unfortunately the former sells to many people!

It seems that every country has at least one “ball & stick game” that has taken root in their culture. Note: not all balls need be round.

Baseball is art because it’s the only sport where the defense controls the ball.
MLB is doing everything they can to ruin it, though.

Baseball is the quintessential American sport: the object is to run around in circles.
