HALLOWEEN. Than goodness it’s almost over! I’m so tired of cleaning up the mess in the Halloween department of the store! Over the weekend, my main job was moving all the Halloween candy from the seasonal area of the store to the front where it was selling faster. On Monday (today), the Christmas candy will be put out where the Halloween candy used to be. According to my pedometer app on my phone, I walked just a tad over 8 miles in the store on Sunday as I walked several laps around the store. To seasonal to fill a cart (we call them “L-Carts”. I was not using a shopping cart) with several boxes of candy, then taking them to the front of the store. Then condensing things down, taking candy from near empty boxes and putting it in another box of the same candy, then taking my empty cardboard boxes to the baler in the back room of the store, then going back to the seasonal department to load up more boxes of candy to take up front. I made quite a few trips that way!
NATIONAL KNOCK KNOCK JOKE DAY. Most of the knock knock jokes I’ve ever heard are pretty lame. I don’t remember ever hearing a funny one.
NATIONAL CARAMEL APPLE DAY. I think I’ll do that today. But I don’t do it where you put a stick in the apple then you coat the entire apple with caramel. I melt a few caramels, then slice the apple and use the melted caramel as a dip for my apple slices.
NATIONAL MAGIC DAY
NATIONAL DOORBELL DAY. My doorbell will not ring tonight! Before trick or treat hours begin, I will disable the doorbell by stuffing a cat toy (probably a catnip mouse) in the little box where the chimes are so it can’t ring. The doorbell scares the cats, so I always disable the doorbell on Halloween night and pretend I’m not home. Actually, most years I’m working on Halloween night so I don’t have to pretend I’m not home. But I still disable the doorbell for the sake of the cats.
I love watching Annie play! She still won’t play with me, though we have plenty of those toys like the feather on the stick or similar toys. But watching her run and chase her kittens and Molly too, makes me feel good. And seeing her duck behind the French doors between my living room and kitchen, waiting to spring on the first unsuspecting victim who passes through those doors makes me laugh. I need to find m laser pointer. Maybe I can get her to chase that red dot!
From yesterday’s comments to Gweedo – Yes, all 3 of Annie’s kittens were at the “meating” of the dead mouse, though Annie just watched from the sidelines. A couple of the other cats were in the “meating” too.
To Eldo, I used to eat candy corn one color at a time too, starting with the white tip and ending with the yellow. I never cared much for the candy corn with the chocolate in place of the yellow though.
I just can’t imagine those cats going to all the work it takes to run a hotel and restaurant! Taking LJ for a hike this morning before some of the roads close, at least temporarily, with the incoming storm which will at least give the higher elevations some snow.
Happy Hallowe’en, everyone! I’ve been trying to explain to Smudge and the Marshmallow Mouse why it’s not a good idea for black and tuxedo kitties to have outies today. They keep on yowling at the door. I think my explanation has fallen on deaf ears.
3 skunks last night, one appeared a little smaller than the other 2. A friend has promised to drop off her skunk trap but hasn’t done so yet. Still trying to decide where to move them, they need water and shelter. Storm coming in tomorrow so I have to wait until the weekend anyway. And keep it to myself as it is more than frowned upon.
I live in a high-rise condo, so I can’t give out candy. I miss it. I used to love giving treats to kids.
One time, walking home from work on Halloween, I stopped at the store near me and bought many bags of different Halloween candy on half-price sale for myself, just being in a nostalgic, sugar-rush mood. I really bought way, way too much.
Walking down the street, there was a group of kids trick or treating. On an impulse, I explained the situation to the accompanying Moms (none of whom I knew), showed them the unopened bags and receipt, and asked if they would let me give the kids some of the candy. They said yes. I tore open the bags of candy and gave each kid several pieces from each bag. They were thrilled. Next thing you know, I had a line of kids waiting.
There were so many smiling faces, most of all mine. It was so much fun! It was my best Halloween in ages.
Geeze, that’s not good. On a lighter note, Happy Halloween, everybody! Dressed up as Sherlock Holmes today. On another note, I didn’t see any ghosts or ghouls or goblins, but I did see four nuthatches ten geese flying in a flock, and a rough skinned newt while out walking today.

Happy Halloween. Living here in Sun City we don’t get any trick or treaters. And I’m afraid that if I went out all I would get is Tums and ExLax.

How much money can the food inspector think he can get by suing cats?
