If it really were a double “u”, it would be easier to spell “vacwm”.

It would be a “double u” when you use lower case and write it by hand though.

The Romans are to blame. The letter V was also used as U. They wrote SENATVS – pronounced senatus but also VIA and VINO pronounced wia and wino. Double V in Saxon meant doubled U.

Letters should be pronounced with one syllable only (my own, grumpy opinion). When the internet became available to the masses, I was constantly annoyed by the use of www. It takes far fewer syllables to say world wide web. I’m so glad that www piece is now obsolete.

    Trouble with a capital “T”

    And that rhymes with “P”

    and that stands for pool!

    ( is a lower case “m” 2 upside down U’s ? … AND is an upper case “M” 2 upside down drunken V’s? … trovble I say )

OK here we go. Most letters have one syllable. W has three. How many have two?

    Ramdom Musings:

Well, that’s what happens when you try to “design” letters by committee. Glad it doesn’t work that way in our universe.

Problem is, he’s not a man of letters.
