Floats are part of our New Year’s Eve Tradition. We used to get all different flavors of soda – orange, grape, root beer, strawberry, cola, etc. Then, making sure the ice cream (vanilla only) was frozen REALLY hard, we would open one of the sodas, put a small scoop of really cold ice cream in a small glass and pour in some of the soda. The really cold ice cream made flavored ice crystals of the soda – adding a little crunch. We would do that for each flavor of soda. Once we had gone thru all the flavors, then we would go back and do it again with our favorite flavors. :o) Diet flavors were NOT allowed. Nor was any flavor of ice cream other than vanilla allowed for the floats.
That used to be my time to do my spring cleaning. I had to take the time off work as my child was off school for two weeks, so she had friends over every day while I cleaned and organized every inch of my house. It worked out well for us to both be home and she got to spend every day with a friend or two. Sometimes we all went out for lunch or dinner or maybe ice cream. Everyone needs a break.
