I was saying yesterday, that this whole scheme might fall apart before the verdict of the committee is handed down. Mr. Ebert’s advice that it “may take time” seems to confirm that it isn’t going to happen right away. As we know from “garage man,” some things in the strip take a long time to develop.
I’m both happy and sad with today’s strip by the DT team; Happy that they kept it real world by not having Lee not revealing the her true relationship with Blaze, but also sad that it shouldn’t have to be in a fictional world like Dick Tracy.
Secondly. I wonder is this is the start of a “talking heads” arc where Lee reveals the relationship, because I do believe that Lizz isn’t buying what she just heard.
Nice effect with the wind in panels 2 and 3. Shelley had done something that I’ve rarely seen in Dick Tracy. They’re in a windy city (if not THE windy city) as evidenced by Lizz’s blowing hair and the leaves on the background tree. A nice touch. Kudos, Shelley!
I think 2 reasons why the relationship issue is still present is because Lizz and Lee are friends as well as collegues and Lizz wants Lee to open up to her about her relationship. Lee is afraid to tell the truth for fear of backlash and/or losing respect from her friends. This is what happens when people come out and I suspect it will be the biggest (and probably the last) issue of this subplot until we hear wedding bells. I, too am anxious to see the criminality of the story kick into gear but I don’t mind the character development.
Now, tell her, Lee and get it over with! In the immortal words of Art Dekko, “Lizz didn’t get where she is by being a brick bat!”
Well this is true—and even if the painting is validated as being from the time period, there’s always going to be the asterisk next to it—it’s not listed in any of da Vinci’s lists of works, not known elsewhere, so its provenance is going to be questionable at best.
Can we please say “enough is enough” with romance and “joke- a- day” strips here for a while? Sure, Gould would use these elements from time to time, but the ratio of adventure to “fluff” was much, much, much higher than it is today. Thankfully, we have had mostly spectacular artwork here, otherwise there’s not much to stick around for anymore.
Had a horrible, horrible vision of where story line might be headed. Hoping I’m wrong… Will post my fear tomorrow. Hope Mike will not double down on the implausibility.
Three panels, three “talking heads,” all interconnected. Very nicely done art, Shelley!
And we coincidentally learn, at least implicitly, that Siskel Ebert is a curator at the Mussir Museum of Tracyville (which helps explain his lavish office, as I discussed yesterday in my main comment).
Meanwhile, the glowing Lee reveals to Lizz and us a little more of her background “friendship” with Blaze Rize….

Sigh, Mike just can’t move past his need to push the relationship between Blaze and Lee on us.
He must realize that the main story is a snoozefest!

Lee definitely looks like she’s growing chin hair, which makes sense since Blaze likes her women with facial hair!

I don’t know about other folks but SDM and I are drowning in “girl juice” and are ready to get to the nutz and boltz on this forgery plan.

Final thought of the day (maybe)
Lately it seems like Mike is resorting to tossing stuff on the wall and working with what sticks!

“The verification of the painting may take time.” Why should this be different from anything else in this strip?

“Good Friend”? Is Mike implying Lee was involved with Blaze when she was undercover as T-Bolt? That’s taking a cover REALLY Deep!

One presumes that Lee has put the term “good friend” in quotation marks," considering that breakfast scene from the other day

The Mussir was the same museum Dekko burglarized during his original 1980 appearance.
Mention Art’s name and they’ll be suspicious on general principle.
