My friend and I do something similar with sea shells.

If we find a clam shell with both pieces still attached, we glue a little plastic pearl in them and put them back on the beach for children to find. They are always so excited when they find one!

Of course, I have also seen completely unaware people walk right over them, smashing them to smithereens lol!

Well, you take your chances playing “the shell game” lol!

I have a friend whose daughters started doing this when they were about 10 & 12. They’re 20 & 22 now and still do it when we’re out walking trails or on picnics. They take unpainted stones and replace them with the painted ones,
