Be smart, be safe, vax and mask, stay out of big crowds in enclosed spaces, wash hands, use antiseptic mouthwash. For your family’s sake don’t hug strangers. You know…all those common sense things your grandma always harped about. Turns out she knew what was best all along.
I’m pushing 80, and I’d like to push 90 someday … or maybe even 100. So I get vaccinated!I got the polio vaccine in the 50s after a childhood of no public swimming in the summer and after a summer volunteering at Rancho Los Amigos Polio hospital and seeing what polio does to people. I get regular tetanus vaccines because my mother raised me with the horror story of how one of her childhood friends died of tetanus, and because I’ve worked with horses for years and still garden a lot (both risks for tetanus). I get annual flu shots because I had a bad case of the flu in 1970 and do not want to repeat the experience. I got the shingles vaccine because my great-aunt told me a horror story of her year-long suffering with shingles; and I got the pneumonia vaccine because my mother nearly died of pneumonia. And I got the Covid vaccine because people were dying, suffering horrible, in their hundreds of thousands … and I did not want to join them (it’s that pushing 90 … or 100 … thing.) I really like being alive and want to continue doing so for as long as I can … so I vaccinate!
Fauci get royalties from all vaccinations. He has made millions already by demanding everybody get the shot and the booster. The only people who really needed it are over 60 or vulnerable. The real science says that. Fauci duped all of us. Yes, I am vaccinated.
I don’t recall trump pushing black eyed peas as a cure for COVID but it’s probably better than bleach. Besides the pharmaceuticals have made enough money, it’s time to give the pea farmers and tin can makers a shot at success.
I faithfully got a flu shot every year for 15+ years. Then 10 years ago I got a flu and a TDAP shot, and developed Guillen-Barre. I wound up in the hospital, my legs paralyzed. 12 weeks later and a lot of physical therapy, I returned to work – using a walker. I’ve only gotten vaccinated twice since – shingles and the J&J COVID (2 years apart). Unfortunately, the J&J shot brought on a weakening of my legs again and I’m using a cane again. I do believe in vaccines, but because I can’t get any of the boosters, I wear a mask in public, avoid crowds, and am grateful for everyone who gets themselves vaccinated.
I worked with a southern man. I’m an adventerous cook and eater, I asked about black eyed peas. “We eat ’em all the time.” I tried them, they were awful. “Didn’t say we liked ’em.” Wisenheimer.
Natural immunity works better and has fewer risks. Just ask the people in China who have none, thanks to two years of ignorant lockdown from their totalitarian government.
Grew up with the black- eyed pea tradition. When in Illinois we ate chowder. The law stated “no squirrel or rabbit allowed forhealth reasons. I had never heard of any “chowder” except clam. Anyone else ever been exposed to this ?
I was going to ask why the folks who won’t eat black-eyed peas won’t eat them. Then I googled it. One person got detailed about it: “Tastes like dirt.” That was succinct and clear!
Now I’m wondering if it’s something like the broccoli thing; for some people it just plain tastes really different from the way it tastes to others.
While I’m wondering, why is it that every time I go to type “broccoli” I have to look it up first to make sure it’s got two Cs and one L instead of the other way around? Why can’t I remember?
While the anti vaxxers may have encouraged the resurgence of measles and even polio, we can not and should not cede defeat. We need a pro-vax campaign aimed at parents and caretakers similar to the campaign against youth smoking several years ago. We just need to use plain English (which the anti vaxxers use) instead of medical jargon. We need to take the no vax crowd head on. Go big or go home!

Don’t get vaccinated, raise America’s average IQ. I’m sure there’s a new strain coming that can get you.

Get vaccinated quietly — out of town — and don’t tell your friends. Do the right thing. Put politics aside and protect yourself and your family.

That’s not the only vaccination I plan to get. Vaccines work.

If you haven’t gotten the vaccination by now, at least get your DNR and living will in order.
