Come on, with all those open air freezers in the grocery stores, no wonder those places are cold. I don’t get it, really. What was so wrong about having those doors on those freezer sections; who came up with the idea of taking those doors off and let the freezer work that much harder to keep things frozen. That must have some powerful sales pitch! We live in a weird world, that is for sure.
In our business office, we had several older women who dressed in layers because the air conditioning seemed chilly to them. We called them “Three-Layer Kates.”
I was in the grocery store and a little girl was hugging herself and shivering. I took of my jacket and told her to put it on. “It’s all warmed up for you. Just leave it with the cashier when your mum checks out.” Both the child and her mum were delighted, and the jacket was indeed waiting for me at the front.
That’s why I always lived up north. Landed several jobs that way. Always figured you can add layers to keep warm in the winter but can only take off so much and be legal in the summer.
With apologies to Mark Twain, the coldest winter I ever spent, was a summer in Houston. I was doing a contract at a Data Center and they kept the air conditioning in the center and the hotel, down so low that I was freezing. You couldn’t see through the windows because the condensation was like a river running down the windows.
I used to be hot all the time. I would argue with husband when I went out mid winter without a coat. Then suddenly I became “a little old lady” and I am freezing cold all the time. Now I get to be “not cold” (which does not mean I am warm or hot – just no longer cold) when it is in the 80Fs.
I sleep – all year round in an old pair of jeans, long sleeve tee shirt and loose socks. When it gets to be winter I often add a sweatshirt or nightgown over it all.

Layers of clothes on top of wrinkles of skin. Pluggers are layered up or laid in!

My wife must have been a plugger all her life!

You can always take it off but you can’t put it on if you don’t have it …

If you dress in a down coat, that’s a different kind of layer.

Our freezers here in Montana and Florida all have doors. Winn Dixie did away with coffin freezers in Florida.

After moving to Tennessee, my wife learned an important lesson about eating in a restaurant: always carry a sweater…
